| Dance, music and fun in Homecoming finale |
|
Next week sees the start of a great new exhibition at the Scottish Parliament about the influence of Scots abroad. This Is Who We Are is an exploration of the links between Scotland and Canada. Organisers paired a dozen towns in each country and set up a photographic project between them. More than a thousand Canadian towns are named after ones in Scotland, so there was no shortage of material to inspire people taking part in the project. This Is Who We Are runs from Tuesday, November 3 to Monday, November 30, at the Scottish Parliament, which can be found at the foot of Edinburgh's Royal Mile, next to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The exhibition is part of the Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrations, that mark the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth. At the end of November, Homecoming Scotland reaches its finale with a series of concerts, parties and events across the country, including Edinburgh. One highlight to look out for, if you happen to be in the capital on November 28 is the spectacular Christmas art car cavalcade (see page eight of this programme for more details). It's a one-off event in which vehicles of all shapes and sizes will make their way through central Edinburgh to mark the Homecoming finale and arrival of Christmas. That same weekend Edinburgh's National Museum of Scotland is celebrating the Homecoming finale too. It will be hosting a programme of music, dance, tours and trails, all of which will be free to everyone. You can find the museum in Chambers Street, telephone: 0131 225 7534. The Homecoming finale takes place the same weekend as Scotland's St Andrew's Day celebrations, which I was blogging about here. At this rate, Edinburgh in end-November could soon rival the festival madness of mid-August. |
