| Golf Open returns to Scotland |

The Open Championship returns to the Scottish town of St Andrews in 2010 for the first time in five years - it will be the 28th Open played over the Old Course since 1873 and the 150th anniversary of The Open Championship. Located just 50 miles from Edinburgh, on the other side of the Firth of Forth, St Andrews is easily accessible from the Scottish capital by road. Special trains will be running from Edinburgh for the Open, making the journey easy for those without cars. People who know the Open say St Andrews buzzes with excitement as international golfing stars such as Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia compete for the silver claret jug presented to the Open champion. St Andrews is considered one of the loveliest towns in Scotland. Its ancient streets are arranged around a long stretch of beach, close to where the Open takes place. Visitors can see for themselves the iconic Swilcan Bridge, where many of the world's greatest golfers have paused for the press and TV cameras. The Open Championship will be held on the St Andrews Old Course from 15 - 18 July 2010. |
