Location: Perfect for our needs, this apartment has bus access just outside the front door, with taxi service steps away. Several restaurants on the same block as well as pharmacy and postal services. Grocery shopping within 10 minute walk, and of course the Meadows, a beautiful open park area, is 2 minutes by foot. The street is a major artery into the city center so there were a lot of emergency vehicles at all hours, but the bedrooms are located at the back of the apartment so noise is not a problem at night. The entrance area needs some attention to make it more inviting, but once up the single flight of stairs and inside the apartment, all is cozy and comfortable. We felt safe and secure. Cleanliness: Marisa went to pains to make the apartment clean and comfortable for our stay, and we have no complaints here. All the appliances worked (we never ran the dishwasher) and wi-fi access was speedy and consistent. We really appreciate all the homey touches, such as board games, books, DVDs and music CDs, small necessities in the bath, and a set of towels for each person. A small washcloth for each person would be a nice added touch. One bureau had a broken drawer, but Marisa pointed it out beforehand and we didn't need it anyway. There is no shower in the bathroom, but the tub is large and comfortable. Even a hand held shower head would be welcomed. Price/Value: I was extremely happy with the value we received for this accommodation. It felt like staying in a relative's home, but by far the best part of the experience was Marisa herself. She stayed and talked with us about our plans and gave us recommendations of things to see and do, and made us feel really welcome. We felt like she really cared that we had a pleasant experience. She was also flexible with us when we arrived early, and needed to stay an extra day. I know we lucked out that the place was not already booked but she simply made arrangements with us for extra payment. The Chinese restaurant that she recommended was one of the best meals on our trip.
Response from Meadows Apartment on 14 Apr 2012:
Thank you for your review, it is much appreciated and it was lovely having you to stay at Meadows Apartment!
I just wanted to point out a few extra points for the sake of future visitors. The apartment is located in a very central area in Edinburgh's Old Town and as well as having a fantastic bus and taxi service on the doorstep, it is also a very easy 10 minute walk to the Grassmarket for access to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile and also to the West End for access to Princes Street. The nearest store for food shopping is under 2 minutes walk to the Co-operative around the corner. There is also a real foods shop directly across from the apartment for those who love organic, health foods and freshly baked bread and many small stores selling local provisions all around the property. There is a Shower head attachment available, unfortunately the previous guest had snapped off the shower head from the hose and this was in the process of being replaced as could be only bought online so was regretfully unavailable during this stay. Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, I am sure it will be helpful to other guests and I look forward to welcoming you back again at any time. If anyone has any other questions they would like to ask, please do and I will be happy to help! Best regards & Ceud Mile Failte!
