The Edinburgh Art Festival , which takes place in the summer, brings together a wide range of events, activities and visual exhibitions. The festival highlights the importance of the visual arts to Edinburgh and its creative community.

The Edinburgh TV Festival was founded in 1976, and since then has been held annually over the bank holiday weekend in August. The festival is attended by many involved in the industry - including prominent figures, who debate the key issues surrounding the profession. 

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the largest arts festival in the world and each year thousands of performers (an estimated 18,626 in 2007) flock to the city and put on over 2000 shows in 250 venues across the city. The award-winning shows, fantastic performers and amazing venues make the festival unique and incredibly sucessful. 

The Edinburgh International Film Festival celebrated its 61st anniversary in 2007, which makes it the UK's longest running film festival. The festival is famous for its fantastic range of films - showing premiers of the best films around. 

The Edinburgh International Book Festival takes place in the last three weeks of August and features around 700 events, with 600 authors representing over 40 different countries. The festival is held in Charlotte Square in the centre of the City and is attended by many famous names which in the past has included J.K. Rowling, Ian Rankin and Irvine Welsh.

The Edinburgh Festival is a three week programme of events including classical music, theatre, opera and dance and takes place in theatres and concert halls across the city. The festival has also set up a year-round programme of outreach work aimed at getting people of all ages involved.
